Welcome to Arts / PE
The Art and Photography Department has a wide range of facilities which allows us to experiment with ceramics and glazes, printmaking and painting. We have a kiln room, 3D and 2D classroom and a print press. We try to produce work that illustrates all the varying disciplines in art, design and photography.
Drama lessons are taught in the Dance Studio or the Main Hall. The studio is a multi-purpose space with mirrors, bar, sound system and sprung floor and the Main Hall has a large performance space with lighting/sound system and tiered seating. Students have the opportunity to work with sound systems and lighting boards in these spaces and also to develop their understanding of how they contribute to a performance and the effect.
Music lessons are taught in one of two large classrooms within the department. The spaces are used in a flexible manner and students are able to access music specific software in the computer suite, or use a range of electric and acoustic instruments such as African drums, ukuleles, steel pans, keyboards and guitars.
Small group work and instrumental lessons take place in one of the three dedicated rehearsal rooms, one of which doubles as a live room for the recording studio, also housed within the music department.
Performances and concerts take place in and around the school. The Main Hall, with its tiered seating, lends itself particularly well to formal concerts. However, students are encouraged to share their skills and learning in many other spaces around the grounds, including the beautiful Sensory Garden.
Students have access to a full size AstroTurf, sports hall (4 badminton court sized), gymnasia (5 trampolines), multi-gym / weights room and CV equipment, dance studio, 6 tennis courts (hard court - Summer), 5 netball courts (Winter/Autumn), 1 outdoor basketball court, 5 football pitches, 4 rounders pitches (Summer), 2 softball pitches (Summer), 8 lane athletics track (Summer), artificial cricket wicket, 3 bay cricket nets (outdoor), 2 bay cricket nets (indoor), 1 long jump pit, 1 triple jump pit, shot putt and discus circles and additional playground space with playground markings. The department also has access to the use of the school mini-bus for both curricular activities and extra-curricular fixtures.
