Welcome to our House System
An important feature of The Long Eaton School is its House System. All students and staff belong to one of the four houses – Chatsworth, Calke, Hardwick or Sudbury, and retain this affiliation for as long as they attend school. We offer a range of House events throughout the year consisting of both sporting, artistic and academic challenges. House events provide an opportunity to make a positive contribution to the school community.
Aims of the House System
To promote:
- A sense of identity and feeling of belonging
- Greater social cohesion across year groups
- Healthy competition
- Recognition and celebration of talents and interests
- Opportunities to work together as a team, to develop leadership skills and to take on roles of responsibility
Each House is comprised of two tutor groups from each year 7 – 11 and 16+ students. The main role of 6th form students is to support the Heads of House in arranging and managing House activities.
House Captains
Each House has a House Captain and Vice-Captain for each year group to assist and promote House events.
House Points
House points are awarded for performance in competitions:
1st = 40 points, 2nd = 30, 3rd = 20 and 4th = 10
If a House fails to enter a team they receive 0 points.
House Colours
At the end of each year House colours are awarded to a small number of students who have demonstrated considerable commitment to and participation in extra-curricular activities.
