France

The Long Eaton School and Collège Pierre Mendès established a curriculum link in 2011. Each year students from both schools participate in a host family cultural and curriculum visit to develop cultural understanding and participate in global learning curriculum based activities.

The Collège Pierre Mendès France and is named after an old French prime minister. Pierre Mendès is with a secondary school in Arques, a village in the Nord Pas-de-Calais region which teaches 638 pupils aged 11-15.

Lessons are from Monday morning to Saturday morning, with most students being free on Wednesday afternoon (often a moment dedicated to sports activities and competitions). Lessons are 8 to 5.00 with an hour for lunch.

During our lovely exchange, our students had the opportunity to do a variety of activities such as:

  • visit the city of Lille,
  •  orienteering around Arques,
  •  eat at a French restaurant,
  •  play sports and board games in French,
  •  cook French pastries,
  •  go to lessons with their partners,
  •  go bowling.
