Weekly Bulletin (20 November)

Welcome to your latest parent bulletin. We hope that it finds you well.

Parent Questionnaire

Thank you to all parents who took the time to complete the parent questionnaire, we welcome your views. We are analysing the results and will continue to look for ways to develop and improve our school. Results will be published in the next School Matters.

Uniform Update

A reminder that nose studs and rings are not allowed, this includes clear piercings.

All students should be thinking about their future careers. To help with this, there are a number of resources and links on our website. Careers is also covered in various Life Skills lessons across all years.

The ClassCharts app is a valuable tool in supporting your child with homework and behaviour. It gives parents an opportunity to praise students for all the positive behaviour which they are demonstrating in school. If you are not yet on the app and need support with this, then please contact main reception. It has also come to our attention that if a parent changes their email address, then they need to shut down the app, download it again and sign is a new user with their new email addresses and parent code (if you haven't kept this, please contact the main office).

Congratulations to the Year 8 students who are invited on the Bowling/Laser Quest trip next Wednesday for good behaviour. We hope you will have a great time!

Safeguarding Update

Sharing videos and pictures- a reminder to all students that they should consider carefully what they are sharing online and amongst friends. If they receive something they are not comfortable with then they should delete it from their devise and if necessary block the sender. All social media sites have buttons where they can report images/videos that they find inappropriate.

We have become aware of a ‘challenge’ that encourages young people to get a can of deodorant and spraying it in the back of their throats. Young people are encouraged to video themselves spraying deodorant down their throats before sending it to others. If someone receives the video then they are meant to do the challenge. Obviously we are very concerned about the dangers of students taking part in this. It could lead to extremely serious health consequences. Please speak to your child about the dangers of this.

16+ Applications

Year 11 students should be making applications for their next steps now. Our Sixth Form is currently taking applications which are available from Student Services. Applications received before December have a greater opportunity for subjects to be available.

"It’s great to have the pastoral support dedicated to the 16+ students. I needed that.” (Year 12 student, 2019)

We are currently working with the charity Shoe Aid ( who are aiming to reduce global footwear poverty. Shoe Aid’s Mission is to give free footwear to all of these people and to reduce the 2 million shoes that are thrown away each week into landfill. We are currently looking for donations of shoes to this cause, if you have any footwear (adult and child sizes) that you would like to donate can you please drop the items off in reception.
