Why Choose Media Studies?
Today we are surrounded by media wherever we look. There are hundreds of TV channels, streaming services, film, radio, the internet, magazines and papers ……. and most of us can access these almost anywhere and at almost anytime. So not only is studying Media interesting in its own right, it also gives you vital skills to understand the changing world around us.
Key Stage 4:
Students become familiar with techniques, such as using software packages like Photoshop, as well as learning about some of the theoretical frameworks.
Students will look at aspects of advertising, the film industry and more specialist areas such as music videos, through the analysis of Close Study Products (CSPs). You will also have the opportunity to create your own media product so that you can demonstrate your practical skills, as well as your grasp of the theory behind them.
We also offer Media Studies at A Level which explores the subject in much greater detail, again through the study of CSPs focussing on cultural and social contexts as well as moral and ethical issues. Continuing to study Media Studies as A Level offers an ideal stepping stone to University or a career in the media industry.
