This challenging vocational course is ideal to support students who may wish to explore Engineering as a possible career pathway either at university or as an apprenticeship.
Year 12 Units
Unit 1 Engineering Principles – Exam Based (66%)
This unit will give learners an understanding of mathematical and physical scientific knowledge to enable them to solve problems set in an engineering context. Learners will also get an understanding of engineering principles used to solve mechanical and electrical/electronic problems.
Unit 2 Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team – Internally assessed (33%)
In this unit learners will examine common engineering processes including health and safety legislation and regulations, engineering drawing and develop 2D computer-aided drawing (CAD) skills. Learners will also work as part of a team to apply a range of practical engineering processes to manufacture a batch of an engineered product.
Year 13 Units
Unit 3 Engineering Product Design and Manufacture – Exam Based (66%)
This unit will explore engineering product design and manufacturing processes and will complete activities that consider function, sustainability, materials, form and other factors. Studying this unit will help learners to progress to employment as a draftsperson and gain other technician level roles in engineering. It also prepares you for an engineering-based apprenticeship, and for higher education
Unit 41 Manufacturing Secondary and Finishing Techniques – Internally Assessed (33%)
This unit will allow learners to explore and carry out secondary machining processes to Manufacture shapes by the safe removal of material. This unit prepares you for a mechanical or manufacturing engineering apprenticeship, entering higher education and, for technician level roles, for example as a machine setter and setter-operator.
